Dr. Oliver Pontius graduaded from Heidelberg University (DDS) in 1983, where he also defended his doctoral thesis (Dr. med. dent.) in 1984.  From 1995 -1998, he did his postgraduate studies in Endodontics at Boston University, where he was trained by Dr. Herbert Schilder. In 1997 he got the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Endodontics (CAGS) and in 1998 the Master of Science in Endodontics (M.S.D.) from Boston University. Since 1998 he maintains a private endodontic clinic in Bad Homburg, Germany. 

Beside his office, he was part-time teaching endodontics at Boston University, the Universities of Würzburg and Freiburg as well as at the postgraduate program in Endodontics, Universite Paris Diderot VII.

In 2003, he became Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. In 2007, he was accepted as an Active Member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. In 2019, he was recognized as Specialist Member in the European Society of Endodontolgy. 

He Published numerous chapters in endodontic textbooks as well as scientific papers in peer-review journals and lectured endodontics world wide.
